Commitment to Volunteerism

The North Dakota Leadership Seminar promotes volunteerism with a focus on Servant Leadership. We believe students who learn to give back to their communities early in life are more likely to become productive, responsible adults. To instill a commitment to volunteerism, each NDLS attendee is encouraged to donate 100 hours of community service in the year following the seminar.

In order to show our student leaders various ways they can volunteer and all they can accomplish when they work together, each year at seminar a guest speaker is brought in to make a presentation on volunteerism, a panel of alumni speak on how to get involved with volunteering, and a large group volunteer project is arranged. Past participants of the large group volunteer project include Lions Eye Bank of North Dakota, Make-A-Wish North Dakota, and Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot, ND.

For the past five years, NDLS has partnered with Project Linus to make fleece tie blankets for those in need. Our goal this year was to make 150 blankets. Through a lot of hard work, our goal was met and those blankets will now be distributed through the efforts of Project Linus. We look forward to working with this, and other great organizations, in the future. For more information on Project Linus, visit their website.

Junior Staff

The Junior Staff is made up of Junior Coaches (JCs) and Program Assistants (PAs) who are alumni under age 21 that apply to volunteer at the seminar. JCs work alongside Leadership Coaches facilitating group discussions, leading cheers, and setting a solid example for youth leadership. PAs mostly work behind the scenes, assisting state committee members with their responsibilities, and working hard to ensure the seminar runs smoothly. All JCs and PAs work together ensuring Student Leaders receive the best possible experience while helping them reach their potential to become OUTSTANDING leaders!

Adult Staff

The Adult Staff is comprised of Leadership Coaches (LCs) who are small group leaders that are at least 21 years old. LCs help facilitate group conversations by encouraging full participation, promoting mutual understanding and cultivating shared responsibility by supporting everyone to do their best thinking. They encourage students to become OUTSTANDING leaders and help them get as much out of the weekend as possible.
